DeekFit Gym 4.0 is coming

Hello DeekFit users!

It’s been a long time coming, but I’d like to confirm that yes – DeekFit Gym 4.0 is finally on the way. I’m undergoing the final stages of testing this weekend, and if all goes well, it will be submitted by Monday. I’ll post a full change log later, but this release includes Windows Phone 8 optimization, hordes of bug fixes, performance improvements, and some UI tweaks.

I realize it’s been about nine months since the last update, and I’d like to apologize for that delay. The long break between releases was caused by two factors – both personal and technical. Since the last update to the app, I’ve gotten married, moved across the country, found & started a new full time job, and bought a house – enough to keep me busy and away from my keyboard! However, there were technical issues as well.

As some of you know, DeekFit Gym was one of the fist apps available on Windows Phone 7. In fact, it was submitted before WP7 officially launched, and the core was largely written using pre-release SDKs from Microsoft. To make a long story short – a lot of the development tools and features just plain didn’t exist back then – which means I manually wrote a lot of things to make the app really fit the Windows Phone look & feel. The good news is, Microsoft has since released a lot of simple, easy-to-use standard versions of these things, and fixed a lot of bugs that existed in those early SDKs. The bad news is, when porting the app to Windows Phone 8, a lot of my manual versions stopped working – which meant I had to rewrite large swaths of the application. This took a lot more effort than I anticipated.

I’m now using certain tools (such as Telerik) that should help make everything seamless and fast in the future – but for now, the good news is YES – DeekFit Gym 4.0 will be available soon!

Thank you for your patience during all of this, and I hope you enjoy using DeekFit!
