Hello DeekFit users!
It’s been a long time coming, but I’d like to confirm that yes – DeekFit Gym 4.0 is finally on the way. I’m undergoing the final stages of testing this weekend, and if all goes well, it will be submitted by Monday. I’ll post a full change log later, but this release includes Windows Phone 8 optimization, hordes of bug fixes, performance improvements, and some UI tweaks.
I realize it’s been about nine months since the last update, and I’d like to apologize for that delay. The long break between releases was caused by two factors – both personal and technical. Since the last update to the app, I’ve gotten married, moved across the country, found & started a new full time job, and bought a house – enough to keep me busy and away from my keyboard! However, there were technical issues as well.
As some of you know, DeekFit Gym was one of the fist apps available on Windows Phone 7. In fact, it was submitted before WP7 officially launched, and the core was largely written using pre-release SDKs from Microsoft. To make a long story short – a lot of the development tools and features just plain didn’t exist back then – which means I manually wrote a lot of things to make the app really fit the Windows Phone look & feel. The good news is, Microsoft has since released a lot of simple, easy-to-use standard versions of these things, and fixed a lot of bugs that existed in those early SDKs. The bad news is, when porting the app to Windows Phone 8, a lot of my manual versions stopped working – which meant I had to rewrite large swaths of the application. This took a lot more effort than I anticipated.
I’m now using certain tools (such as Telerik) that should help make everything seamless and fast in the future – but for now, the good news is YES – DeekFit Gym 4.0 will be available soon!
Thank you for your patience during all of this, and I hope you enjoy using DeekFit!
The latest update to DeekFit Gym, version 3.15 has been released. This release includes a number of bug fixes to custom exercises, routines, and stability.
Are you excited for Windows Phone 8? So is DeekFit! With the release of DeekFit Sprint 1.3, Windows Phone 8 is now fully supported. Among the new, WP8-only features:
- True background GPS tracking – Take a phone call, change your playlist, read an email….your workout keeps tracking! DeekFit Sprint 1.3 utilizes WP8’s background tracking feature to keep the app running and tracking your every move.
- Lock screen output – Hate having to unlock your phone to see your workout details, especially if you have a PIN code? No longer a problem with lock screen output. See the details of your current workout, right on your lock screen as you go.
- Mile / Lap voice notifications – Using WP8’s new text-to-speech technology, you can now get vocal updates of your progress.
- New tile sizes – All three tile sizes are supported, including an expanded live tile in wide mode with even more information
Available now for Windows Phone 8!! This is the first full-featured cardio app for Windows Phone that supports true background GPS tracking, so check it out!
DeekFit recently launched its latest Windows Phone application – DeekFit Sprint! DeekFit Sprint is a full-featured cardio tracking application for your phone. You can track your workouts, share them with friends, view them on DeekFit.com, and sync your data with DeekFit Gym.
Additionally, have you ever wanted to time an interval? Maybe see how far you can bike in 20 minutes, or see how fast your 1/2 mile is? That can be a pain with phone applications – its hard to concentrate on exercise when you’re staring at your phone to see where the end is. Not a problem with DeekFit Sprint! Specify custom intervals, and DeekFit will track your run, whistling when you’ve reached your target.
